The Julie Bruce Dance/Drama Academy was established here in Spain in January 2006.
After successfully running a dance school in England for over 18 years I decided to open an academy here in Mojacar. Various subjects are offered for children from age of 2 years upwards in: Ballet,Tap,discoFreestyle, cheerleading,Streetdance and Musical Theatre.
To date over 200 examinations have been taken with a 100% pass rate and with numerous pupils gaining the top mark of honours! The pupils receive a report,Certificate and medal after being examined by an international examiner who flys out especially for the day.
Fiona Fenwick is an ex Scottish international gymnast, coach and judge and teaches our gymnastic classes. The children work towards their British Amateur gymnastic association Badges(B.A.G.A) and also rythmic gymnastic badges. The children also take part in competitions.
The Musical Theatre class performs two musicals a year where pupils show off their talents in Singing,Dancing and Acting. The class is held on Saturday mornings and is very popular with both girls and boys of all ages attending. To date the pupils have performed Bugsy Malone,Grease,Annie and at the end of this year The Wizard Of Oz!
For the ladies their is streetdance,Body Conditioning and for those who can tap dance there are classes with the more advanced students. Some ladies also join in with our shows.
There is also teacher training classes for pupils who wish to have a career in dance . At present there are graduate classes in Ballet,Tap and Streetdance. The student teachers learn all aspects of teaching including choreography being part of exam days sorting costumes for fiestas and putting on makeup for fiestas as well as being trained for professional teaching qualifications.
Throughout the year the pupils perform in various fiestas, fun days, charity events, culture nights and openings all over the region. The academy is performing in Garrucha on the Playa by the fun fair on Saturday 16th August 2008 at 9pm and then at Mojacar Pueblo on Wednesday 20th August 2008 at 10pm.This is a great opportunity for the children to show off their talents to the mixed nationalities that come and support them.
Children can learn to dance for fun at the academy or be trained up to examination level. I am a fully insured member of the International Dance teachers Association and also a mutually recognised Teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance, these 2 prestigious organisations being recognised worldwide with information being found at .www.IDTA.co.uk.
