The quiet village of El Pocico is located at an altitude of 444 meters in the province Almeria, within the autonomous community of Andalucia, o­n the Costa de Almeria.

El Pocico is situated within the municipality of Lubrin, which is located in the Levante region and spans an area of 138.1 Km². Very near El Pocico was the poor district of “Los Carriones”. Los Carriones did not enjoy the luxury of having a well as El Pocico did. And so in the 1920's, after a number of years of heavy drought, the majority of the population of Los Carriones had transferred to El Pocico. Since then the surname Carrión has been associated with El Pocico

El Pocico was dominated by poverty and the villagers o­nly way out was to migrate. Since the 1940's there was a strong migratory movement toward Catalonia. Nowadays there are more descendants or “Pociqueños" in the province of Barcelona then in El Pocico itself.
