The village of Goñar is located at an altitude of 500 meters in the province Almeria, within the autonomous community of Andalucia, o­n the Costa de Almeria.

Goñar serves as the bordering district between Andalucia and the Region of Murcia and so is split between the municipality of Huercal Overa, Almeria and Puerto Lumbreras, Murcia. Goñar is located in the Levante region of Almeria and spans an area of 317.7 Km². The local fiestas are celebrated o­n the 14^th and 15^th of August. Local monuments include; Iglesia Parroquial Ntra. Sra. Nearby towns include; Huercal Overa, El Saltador, Pulpi and Puerto Lumbreras in Murcia.

Very close to the village is a ridge called El Cabezo la Jara, known by its flora and fuana. o­n the other side a ravine is found called El Barranco el Judio, in which there is a natural spring of water. Also in the proximity of Góñar remainders of mines can be found.
