Casa La Ribera has a small pool and a BBQ with plenty of space with sun loungers to soak up the sun in one of the warmest and driest areas of Spain. The apartments are situated on the first floor of a traditional cortijo within the small village of Santa-Maria de Nieva which has a village shop and bar. The village fiesta is held at the beginning of August with a Dia de Torte in January.
There are 2 apartments, one having 2 bedrooms and the other with one bedroom. They both have a mini kitchen with a gas hob, microwave and a fridge. Crockery, cutlery, pans, towels and bedding are all provided. Towels for the beach/pool are not provided. The apartments have been recently constructed to a high standard on the first floor of a traditional spanish cortijo.
The town of Huercal Overa is 7 kms away and has shops, several supermarkets and restaurants. A large market takes place on Mondays. The Easter Semana Santa and the Feria in October are tourist attractions. There is a medieval market in December and a Three Kings Procession on January 5th.
There are many beaches nearby eg Mojacar, half an hour away by autovia and the quieter San Juan de Los Terreros. Many unspoilt beaches can be reached by car. Mini Hollywood, the ceramics and carpets of Nijar and Sorbas, the nature park at Cabo de Gata and the cave houses of Cuevas de Almanzora are worth a visit. See Palomares which was once at the centre of one of the world’s biggest nuclear scares. Visit the castle in Lorca or the moorish alcazaba in Velez Blanco. A must see are the prehistoric cave paintings, including indalos (matchstick figure with arms outstretched holding an arc, said to ward off evil), of Cuevas de los Letreros. Visit the castle in Lorca or the moorish castle of Velez Blanco. Mojacar Pueblo is a hillside moorish village with magnificent views over mountains and coast. In 2005 the Mediterranean games will be held in this area.
