The absurd and occasional demolitions of British-owned houses in the Almanzora Valley has got to stop. Calling 13,000 homes 'illegal', and thus condemning the owners to living in valueless homes, often without water or electric, is so bad for Almería, and so bad for Spain's reputation abroad, that even the Nigerian Media are laughing. Stop.

Peaceful Demonstration – Saturday 9th November, Palacio de Almanzora, 12.30am

A peaceful demonstration will take place on Saturday 9th November at 12.30am before the Palace of Almanzora in Almanzora (Cantoria) calling for solutions to the problem of illegal houses and for an end to demolitions that have such a detrimental effect on the image and economy of the region as a whole in addition to their devastating effect on the lives of individual home owners who, in the judgement of the court, acted in good faith. Helen Prior will be among the speakers.

Soluciones Si, Derribos No! / Solutions Yes, Demolitions No.

(Whether this will make the newspapers remains to be seen!)

(From my website 27 Oct):
Stung by accusations that the Junta de Andalucía has only demolished British-owned houses in Almería since 2005, the provincial chapter of the Government's environmental department says that they've actually been far more zealous that hitherto credited by the Media, having knocked down twelve homes and two warehouses in that period. Seem quite proud of this record... although they haven't managed to knock down any twenty-two-story hotels in Carboneras recently...
'You can't talk of judicial insecurity', says the Andalucían Government, 'when you follow the law'. This in answer to the Almería Tourism plan to attempt to 'wash the image' of our province at the WTM London Tourist Fair next week.
If there was one difference, according to La Voz de Almería, the other buildings were demolished by their owners, after receiving the appropriate orders, whereas, the three British-owned homes were razed by the Administration.
So you see, the Andalucian Government is not being racist: just stupid is all.

and I still fail to understand why the partly built hotel near Carboneras, which is clealry in the cabo de gata, has not been buldozed and returned to it's original state.

What defence can there been in the eyes of the junta to push this under the carpet!

Politics. No one wants to 'be responsible' for paying out to the developer, it's political suicide. Also, the Junta de Andalucía and Carboneras were the same party, the PSOE. However, it is creaking slowly towards a resolution...
