Owners of Heathrow Airport get contract to build most of Paramount, John.
PARAMOUNT THEME PARK IN MURCIA IS OFFICIALLY "GO"
Last week Premursa, the promoter behind Murcia's Paramount Theme Park and LifeStyle Center, awarded construction contracts to the value of 72 million euros. The Park is to open, on schedule, in the latter stages of 2015.
The highest contract of 52 million euros was awarded to Ferrovial Agromán, the construction division of seven-billion-euro-turnover multinational Ferrovial - owners of London Heathrow. It will be responsible for the first phase of construction at the Theme Park. The second contract of 20 million euros went to Alicante-headquartered CHM Obras e Infraestructuras SA, part of Grupo Vallalba. CHM is expected to be on-site first, in January 2014, as it will be improving access roads - essential for Ferrovial Agromán to begin work - as well as all other thoroughfares within the Theme Park. CHM will also prepare the 66,858m˛ of land earmarked for the LifeStyle Center in anticipation of hotel, leisure and conference centre investors.
Chris Mercer, Director of local estate agent Mercers, says, "With our head office at Camposol Golf, less than ten minutes drive from the Paramount site, we've been keenly following progress since news first broke back in 2010. Of course there have been hiccups along the way, Spain is after all only officially out of recession as of October this year, but with construction contracts now signed surely the doubters will be silenced. At Mercers, property sales are already up a huge 70% over last year - as Paramount takes shape we'll get even busier and are already looking for additional staff."
Some work is currently taking place on-site in Murcia with small teams removing trees ready for transplantation elsewhere. As soon as CHM has done its bit in terms of access roads and land preparation, Premursa say that up to 4,000 workers could be active on-site at any one time - many of them drawn from the local population.
Chris concludes, "This Theme Park is going to transform our corner of Murcia and, as the closest estate agent geographically with 30 years experience in the Region, we're already the first port of call for serious investors looking to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity. No one can predict how quickly prices will start to rise, or by how much, but I think we can confidently state that this part of Spain is going to experience rapid capital growth in property and rental values. Imagine being lucky enough to have purchased a home right next to Walt Disney World or Universal Studios before they started building - the potential is enormous."
Murcia's Paramount Theme Park will have 35 to 40 super high tech attractions and hopes to welcome upwards of three million visitors each year from around the world. Premursa has been granted the license to construct and operate the project for an extendable 30 year period and the economic impact of the Theme Park could make up 2% of the Region's GDP in forthcoming years. I wonder if this will end up like Corvera Airport or the Vera High speed Railway Station or for that matter like any of the other unfinished projects in Spain?
