Some time ago (2 - 3 years) All banks in Spain (possibly all of Europe) had to get up to date passport/ID info on their files. Anybody who failed to supply the info was threatened with having their accounts frozen or even closed.

Similarly, if your passport expires you have to provide a copy of the new passport or your account may be frozen.

Hi, I have had the same I've now been to bank 8 times to get it sorted, plus 3 emails and numerous phone calls. We've just received a letter stating my wife ha not let them have her none residence certificate, although I emailed it in March and took signed copies in to the Mojacar branch in March. So flying out again next week to try and sort it.

Martin don't bother flying out till after the 1st Jan next year as ALL the banks will be stopping bank accounts paying D/D if you are NOT residents in Spain , there will be a form to fill in but at the moment it is unattainable, it can not be downloaded , useless Spanish banks , so do wait till the new year, if you can locate this form please post it , a close English friend at this bank has not come back to me for the past 2 weeks , so it looks like a new government directive

Just had this in from my bank

Translated

We inform you that from January 1, 2019, the entity will stop providing the service to obtain the CERTIFICATION OF NON-RESIDENCE through the General Police Directorate. With this service, every two years, we had made the necessary arrangements to obtain your non-residence certification with a cost of € 25 for you as a commission for this service.

As of that date, and based on the regulations in force, you can prove and confirm your non-resident status through a simple FREE FISCAL RESIDENCE DECLARATION that will not need to be renewed every 2 years, unless some of the information varies. The statement are detailed.

To make this free declaration, we need you to sign the DECLARATION OF FISCAL RESIDENCE (DRF) document, through your Electronic Banking or in your Cajamar office.

Financial institutions are obliged to have the residence of our clients identified, so if they do not have this information, their accounts could be blocked.

We thank you in advance for your collaboration in complying with this obligation. You know, as always, for any clarification or consultation, you can go to your office.
