I've been reading up on the advantages of using 'glass' in the swimming pool filter instead of sand or Zeolite. It seems to be better in a number of ways, efficiency, less harbouring of 'nasties', easier to backwash-less water used etc.

Can anyone tell me the approximate relative costs for changing the old sand to new sand,or Zeolite, or glass.

My filter is Aster 99 by Astral and the filter diameter is 600mm.

I read also that you need less glass than sand. One site mentioned putting pea gravel or glass beads at the bottom of the filter, over the laterals. before filling with the glass medium.

With the improved filtering, does this mean that Jollly Gel or equivalent, will not be needed, therefore off-setting part of the expense.

We have some information here regarding AFM - glass filtration.
http://www.watermaid-europe.com/Pool-Filtration.html
You would not need to use any flocculent and chlorine use would be reduced.

There are diferent sizes of the AFM and so would need to be aware that you use both sizes, you would require a little less AFM than sand in the filter - the AFM is likley to last as long as the pool filtration system - generally about 15~20 years.

Need any more infob drop me an email.

Kind regards, Dave
