thinking of buying a couple of houses in the area
Wouldn't touch Albox area with a barge pole, a sh$te place with no facilities, & full of £££ grabbing locals, who've screwed many a brit or two and their own to boot... since the goose laid the golden egg, aka property boom.
If this offends then go live there and see yourself. I wasted 11 years of my life their so have every right to air my point of view.
Would NEVER buy again. best rent on the coast as far a way as possible.

We went to the car boot there once, that was a eye opener, put better stuff in the bins, it was a shock seeing people who looked liked they were homeless. but having said that, we went further inland and it was really beautiful, not sure were Albox begins and ends, the little town didn,t look too bad, I think a lot of people with no money went there at first, hence the bad name, also the illegal builds don,t help, but one mans meat is another mans poison _________________ No te cases con alguien con quien puedas vivir — cásate con la persona sin la cual no puedas vivir.

If you have read articles or watched programs about the illegal builds in the Almanzora Valley - you will know not to even think about buying a property there. My best advice is to come out here and rent first - then spend time getting to know the area you are interested in -
Once you have done that - then I would stay away from newbuilds - a town house would probably be better - or an old cortijo?? These at least would probably be legal. However, most people who have bought in the area - are now returning to the u.k. because of ill health etc.
They are also disillusioned with many of the problems caused by corruption within the legal system and the Town Halls.
Yes ! but luckily there are still people who have faith in a system that does work as long as the paperwork etc is LEGAL and correct.
You're right about new builds and though some are returning to the UK and there others looking to relocate.

That's a bit like saying England would win the World Cup if we beat every other team in the competition. It's what Basil Fawlty would describe as "a statement of the bleeding obvious, Sybil".
And how do you know the paperwork is legal and correct? You use a lawyer. Most people who live in illegals used a lawyer. Didn't save them.

It is impossible to have faith in a system whereby a property has a building licence, certificate of first occupation, is paying IBI and has an escritura which is registered in the property and is still summarily declared to be illegal.
