Has anyone had experience of this awful bug. Reading on various websites it appears that once a palm is infested there is little we can do but any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi, I live in Turre and the area is badly affected. We have just had two palms cut down due to the beetle. One of them more infected than the other. Several palms on my development have had to be cut down too.
The gardeners that came and cut my palms down said that it is possible to have them sprayed but it has to be done every 3 months at a cost of 30. We decided to remove the palms rather than have an ongoing commitment. We are trying to sell our house and it seemed rather unfair on any future owner to land them with that responsibility.

Thanks for your quick reply. We have gut the infected palm down but expect it to have spread to the adjoining one. Disgusting things and so huge. Is it something we have to report to the ayuntamiento?

I understood that there was no need to report it once you had dealt with it. I think in the past when it was reported the ayuntamiento came along and sprayed the palm but I was told that it now so widespread they cannot cope. This is by no means certain, just word of mouth. At least you do not need to worry anymore. Once I knew we had it I laid awake thinking about it until it was dealt with. Sensitive soul me!![/b]
