I've had my apartment in Mojacar now for around 9 years (we bought right at the top of the boom!), I've just got back from a week there and noticed that this time my electricity tripped quite a few more times than I've experienced over the years and I didn't seem to have anywhere as near the amount of appliances in use as I have before.
My potencia is 5.5kw which in the past has been sufficient to power the aircon, oven, lamps, tv, Sky box, water heater and part of the hob etc.
Although I am not a full time resident (yet), I am considering raising my potencia, and according to the Endesa website calculator I require somewhere in the region of 9kw.
However, no where can I find out how much more the monthly cost would be, or how/who can do the upgrade. Do Endesa themselves have to come and change the IPC in my board?
If the standing cost is extortionate then I'll just have to wait until I'm there full time and learn to switch things off when cooking for example.
First of all - what is tripping. If it is your ICP then either you are pulling (using) too much electricity or you have a faulty ICP. If your RCCB is tripping then there have been power spikes or short circuits. If it's you RCCB then I wouldn't bother increasing your potencia. However, you do have some high power units. if your air con, oven, hob and water heater are all on at the same time then 5.5kw may not be enough. However, I wouldn't take too much notice of Endesa's potencia calculator. It says we need 13 Kw but we only have 8.05 Kw and have never tripped the ICP / digital meter (our ICP has been taken out now we have a digital meter as it is built into the meter).
As to how much increasing your potencia will cost: your potencia charge is probably the same as mine which is €0.115383 per Kw per day so 5.5 Kw costs approx €38.08 for 2 months (per billing period). If you increase your potencia to 8.05Kw it will cost €55.73 for the same period (i.e. about €9 per month). However, to increase your potencia you might need an updated boletin the cost of which may depend upon the need for any additional work.
