My son has rented an apartment near Vera for a week in August but has found out that there is no air conditioning so he would like to hire a couple of portable units. Does anyone know anywhere local to the Vera/Garrucha area where this can be done?

He may not need air conditioning unless the sun is shining directly into the apartment all day. There are many things that can be done to keep the house cool. For example you can keep all the curtains closed during the day and take a cool shower before bedtime. Also at night you can open the windows and use electric fans to draw the cool night air into the building.Another little trick when going to bed is to place a bowl of ice in front of a fan so that the air cools as it blows across the ice.The list of things to do that can help is endless;avoid the mid day sun, drink plenty of water etc.We have been going to Spain in the summer for over 10 years and have never needed air conditioning. The downside of air conditioning is that when you leave the house the heat hits you twice as hard. Also air conditioning is very expensive to run,it's the equivalent of having the central heating on full during the winter in the UK.
