Tough new motoring laws have come into effect which grant more powers to the police, enabling the authorities to take away licenses and issue fines.

The laws also introduce stringent safety regulations that motorists must comply with:
- Drivers can lose their licenses if fined three times for serious offences or face 1 year license suspension if agreeable to retake a driving test.
- Police can confiscate a license when a driver involved in an incident has; evident symptoms of having lost the necessary conditions for driving, although wording could be changed to physical conditions.
- Learner drivers will not be allowed a license for a year following three serious
offences or two very serious offences.
- Anyone driving without a license will be banned from obtaining a license for
one year.
- Non-licensed drivers caught driving cars will have the vehicle impounded for
one month. After a serious incident the driver’s name will be put in the
Drivers register for two years.
- Moped riders will have their licenses revoked if they commit one very serious
or two serious incidents over a period of two years, although this will not
prevent them from obtaining a drivers license.
