Velefique was a noticeable town in the Islam religion, refuge in the 10th Century of the Jarichí sect, that was fleeing from Cordoba, who marked the life of the town and its beliefs; cradle, in the middle of the 12th Century, of one of the most representative personalities of the Islam faith, the poet Sidi Abuh Ishaq Ibrahim, Abu Salin. This poet along his 108 years of life wrote about twenty works, among them a history of Almeria.
This cultural reference joins with the beauty of the ruins of the old settlement which was in its day a Moorish Citadel, and the parish church that after years of ruinous state, after being burnt by the Moors, was restored.
