Spent two wonderful weeks here in June 2011, everything was as described. The house was a typical Spanish property and very spacious, situated just off a winding street. There was everything we needed inside and a beautiful terrace to sunbathe on but especially to dine and wine under the stars with the lights and sounds of the pueblo below, a truly romantic setting.
The owner was more than helpful throughout and nothing was any trouble even when we were there we had 24/7 assistance if needed.
The pueblo itself is very winding and steep so would be difficult for anyone with walking difficulties but well worth a visit to feel and see it''s beauty. Lovely little shops, restaurants and bars hidden down side streets, a busy plaza where locals and tourists alike savour the sunshine and warm nights. Look out for concerts, we had a great nights dancing in a village club to a live band!
The large supermarket on the Playa roundabout is great for stocking up but the pueblo shops are reasonable too. The weekly market is a must with fresh produce of a size and price we just don''t see in the UK!! Oh and the nut stall....mmmmmm, fresh dates and almonds!!
I thought the real Spain was lost forever along most coastal resorts but this is one area of Spain were the people are courteous and the culture is abundant. If you''re lucky enough to be in the village on a Saturday there may be a wedding in the local church which is worth hanging around for if only to see the beautiful dresses worn by all and a bit of tradition thrown in.
The beaches are many and spacious with several chiringuito''s playing a multitude of Spanish tunes and if you eat or drink in them you can use their sun loungers. Try and take in a fiesta for added enjoyment. Public transport is limited but we still managed a few trips to neighbouring towns and a day trip to the city of Almeria which shouldn''t be missed, without much trouble at all.
What can I say other than I will be returning to Mojacar this year and hopefully for many years to come.
Many Thanks Chris!
