Toflo Gourmet - a modern delicatessen with an international flavour

Since opening its doors just before Christmas 2007, Toflo Gourmet has proved to be an instant success, providing the area with a delicatessen of fine foods and beverages.

Toflo took over a year to come into fruition, with the owners taking time and care to select some of the finest products available at a price that won't leave the customer slack jawed and speechless.  The two sisters who own and run Toflo travelled extensively, sampling the best cuisine from all over the world and then bringing those experiences to bear when selecting their gourmet products for the store.

Spain is well represented here, with fine cured meats and sausages and a wonderful selection of cheeses from all over the peninsula.  As o­ne would hope, Toflo has a fantastic selection of olives and olive oil, including the locally produced and highly regarded Castillo de Tabernas olive oil.  Spanish gourmet products are also available here, including ready prepared dishes such as casseroles and meats, that the average person has little chance or opportunity to make at home, enabling all of us to sample some of the finest cuisine Spain has to offer.  o­ne of the most surprising finds in the Spanish selection is the Catalan chocolates.  Produced by o­ne of the finest chocalatiers in the country and sold exclusively to Toflo in this are, these chocolates have to be tried to be believed!  Such wonderful combinations as dark chocolate and balsamic vinegar, violets and strawberry and black pepper will leave the palate craving more!

If your are a fan of Italian cooking then Toflo is an absolute must for you!  The range of pastas is incredibly diverse, and the multi-coloured ribbons and shells are sure to be the a talking point amongst your guests.  Or why not try the wonderful black spaghetti, famous for it's use in seafood dishes?

There is a surprisingly large selection of goods from the UK as well.  The Prince of Wales' Duchy Originals organic biscuits and preserves make perfect compliments to the cheeses available, as do the Fine Cheese Co. flavoured crackers (the chive crackers are especially good).  Both sweet and savoury preserves grace the shelves of Toflo, making this the ideal choice for either breakfast or supper.

The owners of Toflo are also, understandably, very proud of their selection of spices and seasonings, carrying no less than 23 rare and hard to find spices, such as star anise and Cayenne pepper from Extremadura.  The ranges of exquisitely flavoured salts and peppers from all over the world add spice and individuality to any kitchen or dining table.  Salts from Washington state, Wales and Bolivia compete for space with more unusual varieties from the Himalayas and black salt from Hawaii, offering a truly international flavour!

As if all of this wasn't enough, Toflo has o­ne of the most extensive selection of beverages o­ne could wish for.  There are over 80 different wines, champagnes and cavas, including some very rare and highly sought after vintages, ranging from sweet Moscatel dessert wine to rich and fruity Riojas.  There is even a 48 year old dessert vintage which would make even the most experienced somelier weep with pleasure!  There is a good selection of liquers and spirtis as well, including Aqua de Vie, Stolichnaya vodka, Hendricks gin and many other brands that cannot be found in any supermarket.

One of the other specialities of Toflo is a collection of "designer" mineral waters from all over the globe, from such incredible sources as Mount Fuji in Japan and the Scottish Glens.  o­ne of the most unusual brands is Cloud Juice.  This incredibly clear, fresh water is, literally, made from cloud juice - rain!  Collected from King Island near Tasmania, this water is claimed to be the purest in the world because the trade winds carrying the rain clouds travel 7,000 miles from South America without passing over any land, and therefore encounter little or no pollution, before arriving at the island.  Spains top restaurant, El Bulli near Barcelona, carries Cloud Juice, making it o­ne of the most prestigious waters in the world.

There is also a wide selction of teas and coffe, including the famous English brand Ahmad, and Chinese tea flowers that offer not o­nly a delicate, scented flavour but a beautiful sight as the flowers open when submerged in hot water!

Toflo is the perfect place to buy a wonderful, original gift for friends and families, and the owners also offer a corporate gift service for those wishing to reward their colleagues and staff.  Home delivery is available, and more details are available in store.  The owners are happy to try and order something special for you if, o­n the odd chance, you can't find it o­n their shelves.  The working relationship the two sisters have with producers, rather than distributors, means that they can keep their prices as low as possible, with products starting from as little as 80 cents!!
